Weekend Update and Veg Feast!
How is everyone on this Monday. ah weekend over I am actually happy about that because the way I figure it the faster the weeks go the faster school will be over haha. Ok so anyway If you read my blog you know that I promised a post on Friday about the vegetarian food festival that I went to last Sunday here in NYC but school work comes first and I had no time so I thought since my weekend was pretty much uneventful I would talk about it here and briefly mention some things about my weekend. So here we go. Just to note I did not take any pictures. I was a very bad foodie Blogger. I was way to busy enjoying myself haha. I tried everything. Also I was concerned with my parents having a good time. I wanted my parents to have a good time and experience the veg world a little bit. They are supportive of me being veg but totally do not get it so I was excited to share this with them. So we drive into the city and were super luckily to find a spot on West 18th between 7 and 8 (the festival was between 6 and 7th) so it started out good. We then went straight to the festival. We walked right in and got our wrist bands and was greeted by my favorite store whole foods. They gave pop chips and a bag to put all goodies in. I have yet to try the pop chips but plan on it very soon. So we went in and started to look around. It was a little over whelming at first because there were so many people and vendors I had no clue where to start first. My mom saw cookie so there we went haha. We tried many goodies some that were amazing and some that were so not so amazing. Below are the products that I really liked. I got cards of only the stuff I like so thats the only things I am going to talk about. Plus I am not into bashing people who work hard on there products so I will not be mentioning the things that I did not like. Here are my top 10 favorite things.
1. Sweet and Sara- also known as the BEST MARSHMALLOWS EVER! They have so many wonderful flavors. We went back so many times, my dad especially haha. He said they were better then regular marshmallows. He said we have to go to wholefoods and get some haha.
2. Fran Costigan I loved her. She did a cooking demo of deserts. She showed us how she makes her pudding, date shake, and chocolate sauce. We got to taste everything. The chocolate pudding was to die for. The best pudding I have ever tasted. My parents were over the moon with chocolate deserts haha. She also gave out some truffles she made. I loved her. She was fun and knew her stuff. I kept telling my mom I wish she would have a cooking show. We need some vegan cooking shows and she would be perfect. She was fun and energetic. Much better then others that are on some shows that are plain and boring. My opinion.
3. Luna & Larry’s Organic Coconut Bliss Ice Cream I am not really a fan of coconut milk but my mom tried this first and told me it was good so try it. She was right. It did not have a coconut milk taste at all, just a creamy taste. It’s cool to know that there are some good ice cream flavors out there.
4 Goddie Girl- We tried the gluten free cookies that they had. I do not have a gluten intolerance but I find that I feel better when I eat some gluten free things. These cookies were really good. They were my absolute favorite cookies at the festival. They did not taste different at all. Very fluffy. I did try some other gluten free cookies there and they were horrible.
5. Live Jolly Foods At the festival they had a lot of products, Salad dressings, Raw organic, nuts, fruits, sprouts, seeds, herbs, spices, seaweeds, syrups, and oils. I tried a bar that they made using only raw nuts and not fruit or syrups. I liked it. It was nice to have a bar with just nuts no sweetness added to it at all.
6. The V Spot- This is a restaurant in Brooklyn that I have been dying to go to. They were there serving food. At the end of the day we were a little full but I still had some room left so my dad an I split a black bean empanada. So good. I was smelling it all day so I had to have it. Now I now I need to go to the restaurant. Also my dad wants to try it too.
7. Bagel Spice-This was a spice that tasted like bagel recipes. I tired the everything bagel flavor in a hummus and it was great. It tasted just like an everything bagel without all the carbs of a bagel.
8.Fruit Bliss- This was a dried fruit company. All was very tasty and did not taste overly sugary like some dried fruits can be. If I were to eat dried fruit regularly this would be the brand.
9. The Simply Bar-These were high protein bars that are only 160 calories. They tasted good too. I liked that they were not filled with fat or sugar like some protein bars.
10. YisRoYal-Cookie dough. Need I say more. Cookie dough is just fabulous. How can anyone hate on it really.
There were so many other wonderful goodies too such a grilled chess by dairya, sandwiches with deli meats by tofurkey, lots of different fudge, and wonderful cooked. Oddly there were not many healthy things. I was a little disappointed with that aspect actually. They really didn’t keep the veg in many I the tables. The people who gave hummus to try did though. Also the sushi was amazing! It was all vegan sushi with mangos and I loved it. I didn’t even need to buy lunch because of all the wonderful goodies. Also a mention was that Peanut Butter & Co. Were there and have samples of any flavor you wanted. My parents tried them all and bought two white chocolate wonderful and dark chocolate dreams. I love that my parents love them too because now that means they will be paying for the jars haha. I liked watching the cooking demos too. It was really fun to see some different styles of vegan cooking. It was called the vegetarian food festival but really everything was vegan which was so much better haha.
The best part of the day though was that I let myself try everything and spending it with my parents. They had so much fun. They loved all the samples. They felt that most of the food tastes good if not Better then the familiar version. Funny part was that we were handed vegan mac and cheese and my mom goes hey Greg (my dads name) you want some fake Mac and cheese. They guy went not fake vegan and my mom laughed. I told the guy hey at least I got her here trying everything. That’s a step. He looked a little hurt by the comment. Oh well. It was a really nice time with my parents. I was so surprised how opened minded they were. They made me very happy.
The festival ran until 5 but we were done by 2 so we thought we go exploring around the lower west side. I don’t spend that much time down there so it was fun. I really liked it. We went to Starbucks first. We figured after all our deserts we need coffee lol. I had a soy extra foam cafe misto with sugar free Carmel syrup. Love that drink. After that we went to some stores. My favorite was this one store that was inside a church. I am so mad that I didn’t get the name. The outside was a church and inside it was all renovated and gorgeous and the clothes were so cute and reasonably priced. That part shocked me lol. After that we walked some more then decided to go back home. On our way to our car however we saw a sign for Barney’s warehouse sale and though why not go in. We hated it. I could not see why everyone was going crazy the prices were still high and the clothes were super ugly. It was like leftover junk but people were going crazy over it. My dad said in he men section men were trying on clothes in the middle of the room. This was definitely. Of for us. So we then headed home. All in all it was a wonderful day. A huge success in my opinion.
So let’s talk this weekend. Friday I woke up and made green oats. I just wanted to show you guys how green they were! Insane and wonderful.
So Friday after breakfast.I went for a massage and boy did I need it. I love insanity but my back was a little sore and my knees were really hurting. I told her about my back but not my knees because I was afraid of her hurting them more. So as she was massaging my legs I guess she new because she worked on my knees and did this pull thing to my legs that felt amazing. I really did not realize how tense my legs were. I guess I was really working them. So after that I needed some things from my local health food store so I went there real quick. Thing was they did not have one thing I really needed yet I still managed to spend $60. That store gets me every time. I bought some cool things and as I try them I will most likely post them here on the blog. So anyway after that I finally got a car wash and went home for homework. Nothing special. I did my insanity workout carefully and some gym time in between. I did my strength training and 25 minute on the stepper. I forgot how much this machine makes me sweat. Also it did not hurt my knees so super plus and I went to bed.
The cool thing about doing homework that I submitted my LSAT recap homework and got everything correct and won a prize. I had to wait until the next day to find out. I walk up a little early so I could go to a nutritionist. I feel I eat pretty well but I have been wanting some guidelines to revamp it a little and make sure I am eating enough and balancing my meals. Sometimes it helps to get some advice and encouragement. She seemed really nice and I am excited to see how things work out with her. I will let you know how that works out, it sound promising. So after that I went to my class and I got my prize. I won an hour of free tutoring. That is huge. Tutoring is so expensive so to win that it was huge. After class I went home and did more homework. I did make a new recipe. I have been dying to try Happy Herbivore’s cheater pad thai. The thing was I did not want to waste the calories on pasta noodles. So on hungry girls website I find these things called Tofu Shirataki noodles. These things are so low cal so I though I give them a try. All you have to do rinse and drain then put them in a microwave for a minute. After that you throw the sauce on top. I warmed up some left over veggies and dinner was served! I really liked the noodles. The sauce made them taste o yummy. I was very full by this dish but I think next time I will made half the sauce and eat all the noodles and chop up veggies and throw it all together. I like experimenting lol.
During dinner it was just my sister and I so we decided to watch a movie we had not seen in a while. We chose Annie. We love this musical. It was nice to have dinner and a movie night with my sister. We used to do that all the time and we have not done it in a while. After dinner I finished some more homework while finishing the movie. Afterward I wanted to watch something else old but I did not know what. So I spent about 30 minutes searching Netflix lol. Everything I wanted was not on streaming. So after I finally picked something I made desert to enjoy with it. I decided to make Katie’s One minute chocolate cake. It was so amazing. I do not know why I wanted. I could eat this everyday. I cannot believe that is it some what healthy. I topped mine with a teaspoon of Dark chocolate dreams as a frosting.
It was so good I felt a little guilty having it but then I told myself it was healthy and only 130 calories so it is ok haha. After that I finished my movie and went to bed.
Sunday I woke up a little later then usual since the time change. I didn’t mind it really. Normally when I wake up later I get mad because I feel the day is gone but not today. I woke up relaxing which was great I then did morning yoga which I haven’t done in a while and missed it. Then I had breakfast with my parents and did homework, insanity then more homework then cooked for the week, went to the gym and watched tv. That was it. very thrilling Sunday hehe. Well I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. See you Wednesday for my favorite day of the week
